Greater Erie County Marketing Group, Inc.

 Project Announcement

Akro-Mils, division of Myers Industries, Inc., will receive state tax credits to assist in the expansion efforts to their Sandusky facility.  New machinery and equipment and on-site infrastructure will support the relocation of a Petri dish business from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.  The Petri dishes are used in laboratories as a place for cultures of micro-organisms to grow into large colonies for study. The new injection molding lines will compliment the existing lines and manufacturing processes.  Akro-Mils will conduct both manufacturing and distribution functions at its existing Sandusky facility.

We were in competition with South Carolina and Kentucky for the $1.5 million project.  The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 30% tax credit for 5-years to expand the facility.  The company must maintain operations at the project site for 10 years.  The expansion efforts will add 30 new jobs and retain 78 jobs over the next three years.  In August, the City of Sandusky approved a $100,000 forgivable grant/loan.

GEM/ECEDC, City of Sandusky, Ohio Department of Development and Akro-Mils' officials worked collaboratively to secure this project for the Sandusky facility.
